My home office is “en suite” to my bedroom, tucked away from everyone else – a very private space. And the wall in front of my desk is diary, map, vision board, aide-memoire….and mess! Everything gets put up there, from curtain fabric samples, to business cards to post-it notes to self.
So yes it is very useful and personal but perhaps not as beautiful as it could be. And there are some fabulous noticeboards available to choose from and so I have researched the options. Here are 7:
This graphic speech bubble noticeboard is from Goodwin and Goodwin. I only recently discovered them, and they don’t have a huge range – but everything that they have is great. This is a magnetic noticeboard – white gloss on steel, 50cm x 37cm, £34.95. There is also a wonderful “tweet board”.
Union Jack pin boards are very on trend and this one from Next is sweet and only £15. It measures 36 x 38 cms and comes with a few silver pins. Very pretty and patriotic – very Jubilee, Olympics and best of all for just being proud to be British.
For a wide range of fabric covered noticeboards go to The Noticeboard Company. They are the specialists and have been recommended to me by friends who have had boards made on several occasions. You can choose your own size, fabrics and colours to suit you and your room – so this seems to be a beautiful and useful option.
Or for a bold pop of colour go for this Baroque memo board from Dwell. It measures 50 x 43 cms and costs £59. (PS I noticed that the same noticeboard was available from notonthehighstreet.com for £74.95)
Alternatively, if you are feeling crafted you could just paint an old frame and add some fabric covered padding or paint the centre with chalk paint. Choose metallic spray paint for a urban glitz or annie sloane paints for gorgeous subtle vintage colours.
The prettiest noticeboard that I found was this vintage style bird cage, with individual rustic pegs from Primrose and Plum. Definitely at the other end of the useful-to-beautiful spectrum from my white-tac wall, it measures 88 x 58 cms and costs £39.50.
Prefer to make something for yourself? Martha Stewart, as always, is full of great ideas. This carpet bulletin board is quite easy to make – and you could just use free sample squares from your local carpet shop, so inexpensive too. If you click the link to her site there is even a video that you can follow.
This funky and contemporary noticeboard is a stylish and graphical piece of functional art by leading Swedish interior designer, Caroline Lowgren. £89 from www.funktionalley.com.
