Decorcafe Inspiration: At Home With Leoma Harper
An expert member of the The Decorcafe Network, Leoma Harper of Style The Clutter is an interior designer and stylist best known for her home and product styling. We were thrilled to see Leoma’s house as one of our regular home tours and we are delighted to share it with you here.
The starting point was the open plan kitchen and dining room, where we were most familiar as the branch she hung above her kitchen table has become famous on instagram. She restyles it throughout the year. It is also one of many design details she has put in place to link the house to the view of the stunning garden beyond.
The relationship been home and garden has been further strengthened since Leoma painted the woodwork in Fusion Mineral paint. Her dark colour choice (equal quantities of black and blue to match Farrow & Ball Railings, used on the kitchen island base) and matt black finish help to make the frames disapear. The previous white paint formed much more of a visual barrier.
Leoma has carefully positioned comfortable seating areas to enjoy the view. House plants and her choice of a green and neutral colour palette creates further links between the two.
The kitchen is next in line for an update. It has been repainted and new tiles and shelves added but there is relatively little space in the cooking area for such a large house. The plan is to move the back wall out into the garden and rotate the island worktop whilst retaining the beautiful marble worktop and look and feel. The stools are from Cox & Cox.
The playroom leads directly off the kitchen. Closed off by concertina doors it lacked any natural light. Leoma opened it up bring in the light and create a fluid space for the family. She added the fireplace and shelves to display artwork and photographs, high enough to be well out of reach of small hands. The children are content to chalk on the Ecos chalk paint walls painted underneath.
The downstairs bathroom has been completely refurished with new tiles, reconfiguration, wallpaper and paint colours. Only the vanity unit was retained as it was made very well. Leoma just restructured it, added the new marble surface and basin and repainted it with the rest of the room. The Kids Rule from Lovestruck Interiors is one of the favourite family details.
The living room has only just been completed. Leoma added the panelling, fixed the over-mantle mirror to the wall and added the chandelier from One.World. The new soft pink colour palette features Chateau by Zoffany. The sofas are from French House in Fulham, who manufature new chairs in traditional styles.
The family room is painted in Stiffkey Blue by Farrow and Ball to create a cozy area to relax in. The pink Anthropology sofa goes beautifully with the walls.
The white frames of the gallery wall is designed to draw the eye once the TV screen is disquised against the dark blue of the walls. The coffee table is from Oka.
Leoma extended the chimney breast in the master bedroom to make it wide enough for the headboard of the bed to rest against. Recently repainted in the new dusty blush Pink Ground by Farrow & Ball, this is Leoma’s favourite colour – such a warm colour it feels like you are getting a hug whenever you walk in.
The master bathroom was in very good shape when they moved in and so Leoma has just given it a face lift with a new colour scheme. It is painted in Oval Room Blue by Farrow & Ball.
One of our favourite details is the painted “runner” on the stairs from the first to second floors. Painted to match the colours of the actual Roger Oates runner on the main stairs, masking tape was used to create the pattern and then Farrow and Ball Perfect Stone was painted on top of Antique White Eico paint on the floor.
