Bright_Bold_FlowersLockdown Flower Deliveries

Fabulous Flowers and Photos by Helen Edwards. Words by Debbie.

I was so happy when I heard that the garden centres were opening. It is such a tragedy to think of all the plants they have been nurturing, wilting and going to waste. I really hope that this weekend, with appropriate social distancing, people will get out and support their local garden centres.

I have the same feeling for florists. For many florists the issues go beyond the lack of opening a shop. They depend on weddings and large events for their business and unfortunately these have pretty much stopped.

However, creative small business owners are resourceful people and are finding new ways to reach out and brighten our lives with bunches of love and hope.

One such person is Helen Edwards of The Velvet Daisy. Helen has been one of our expert members for a long time, right from the beginning in fact. She creates relaxed and elegant floral designs inspired by the lavish colours and slightly wild collections of an English country garden.

At this time of year Helen would normally be buzzing back and forth between Devon and London, working with her team of suppliers and stylists to bring ‘her bride’s’ vision to life for one of the most magical day’s in her life. But, as I said, that has stopped, for now anyway. Instead, Helen has morphed her business and is now offering flowering deliveries.

She is picking out the freshest collections of bunches of one particular seasonal flowers, such as peonies, sweetpeas, roses, stocks, delphiniums or a bunch of mixed summer flowers and delivering them in and around SW London.

Pink Peony

Such a lovely gift for yourself, friends and families She delivers on Thursday’s and Fridays around South London, with prices from £20 plus £2-£5 delivery. The cut off for ordering is Monday pm.

To give you an idea £20 could include:

10 x peonies, or 15 x sweetpeas, or 15 x stocks, or 10 x larkspur, or 8 x roses (not garden), or other varieties on request. Summer flower bouquets are £35 small, £50 medium, £75 large.

Helen’s delivery flowers are not on her website, but to find out more about Helen please go to

And if you don’t live in SW London I recommend that you take a look at Floom. Floom is the Deliveroo of flowers. They connect people who would like some flowers delivered to their home with independent florists in the local area, so you are not limited to a standard selection of bouquets. Lovely idea.

If you know of any other small creative home businesses doing amazing things please do let us know.

Best Wishes

Debbie & Helen
