Interior Inspiration: Revamping a Rental to Make it Home.
By Deborah Moor & Caroline Nicholls of Slightly Quirky.
We were approached by a family who had been renting out their Reigate home for a number of years whilst they lived abroad. The tenants had moved out and the property was looking very tired. They wanted to reclaim it as their own, so that they had somewhere to live and feel at home when they visited the UK in the holidays.
With three young children the brief was to create a vibrant, fun and colourful design without spending a fortune. They didn’t plan to keep many personal possesions in the UK and so we brought the house to life with colour, texture and the occasional piece of slightly quirky furniture.
Our starting point was the beautiful blue tiles in the sitting room fireplace which we took onto the new velvet sofa and inspired the colour scheme throughout. We chose leather for the second sofa for a more eclectic mix of styles and a really lovely fabric for the large bay window to replace the heavy grey velvet drapes that had hung there previously. The pop of yellow in the Yvonne Coomber artwork and lampshade makes all the difference.

Playroom: We chose a contemporary sofa for the playroom and added fabulous Frida Kahlo cushions from Graham and Green. Two rugs were laid on the floor to create a bold geometric shape. The Star Wars print already belonged to the family.
