Tips for Taking Great Family Pictures over the Holiday Season

Christmas time is magical!  Regardless of whether you are 8 or 80, we all love the decorations, the presents, food and just being together.

As we haven’t been able to meet our families as much as we would have liked this year and I really do hope  I am hoping that this Christmas will be a time to catch up.

Capturing family together has become even more important and in my talk I will be explaining how best to take photos of family groups, portraits and documenting the details and ambiance of the occasion.  From the candid moments to the family all looking at the camera. All you need is phone with a camera (preferably a smart phone).

What will you be doing with these images after Christmas? Will they just stay on your phone? Putting together memento books is a wonderful way to show your story of Christmas and I will be showing you how I design.

About Annie Armitage: I’ve always been creative – whether it’s dressmaking (including turning old handbags into hats!) or writing and performing songs. But I found my true creative niche after my son Peter was born and I began taking pictures of him. As all parents know, those early years pass so quickly and suddenly those tiny little people are teenagers! Recording those cherished moments as Peter began to grow became so important. I knew I was creating memories my husband Tony and I would be able to look back on.

I knew too I’d finally found the perfect outlet for my creativity so I went back to university to immerse myself in photography. I set up my portrait photography and family lifestyle business from my home in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey in 2007 and it brings together so many facets of my life. I love being with people – getting to know them and finding out about their lives. I think that’s why I’m able to put clients at ease so they get the get the best out of their photoshoot whether they are a corporate headshot client or a family.

Working with children is such fun too and I particularly love working with the nursery children with my business Little Planet Photos. Perhaps it’s because I’m a mum myself that I can get children to relax and just be themselves. That’s how I produce stunningly natural images of children at play that capture the very essence of their young characters.

When I’m not working, a camera is always to hand – even if it’s just my iPhone. I see possible photographs everywhere I look – even in seemingly mundane things. As Peter is now at university my main subjects to photograph are my completely mad border terriers, Reggie and Rosie!
