The Decorcafe Christmas Interview with Jo Pratt

In the run up to Christmas 2020 (it’s slowly creeping closer!) we thought we’d catch up with our experts from The Decorcafe Christmas Festival to see what they are looking forward to over the festive period. Here’s what award-winning food writer, cook, food stylist and presenter, Jo Pratt had to say…

What do you love most about the Christmas holidays?

The food! I love all the classic Christmas foods such as mince pies, Christmas pudding, roast turkey and all the trimmings plus pushing the boat out and eating in a more extravagant way!

Usually we would entertain a lot over the holidays which I thoroughly enjoy…dinner parties, friends and their family’s for lunch or big new year parties, with food and wine being the main focus. This year will be less eventful but we will make it equally as enjoyable even if it is via zoom!!

How do you manage your business over the festive period?

As cooking is a major part of the festive period for people, I make sure I am up to date with any recipes well in advance to post on social media throughout the festive period. If I am writing a new book or recipes for a magazine, I will test new ideas on the family throughout the holiday. That’s doesn’t really feel like work though. The beauty of what I do is that it fits well into family life, as we all need to eat.

Which of your products are the most popular in the run up to Christmas?

I don’t have a specific Christmas book (yet!) so it is always the latest cookbook I have written that will be the most popular product that sells. They make great Christmas pressies.

And finally… What are you looking forward to most this Christmas?

This Christmas is somewhat up in the air with various restrictions in place, I don’t know how much we will be able to see the rest of the family (grandparents, sisters, cousins etc) at this stage which is a shame as I love big family gatherings.

The one thing I am very much looking forward to is the slower pace over Christmas, with the children being off school (no early starts!), long lunches, family film nights, delicious wines and long walks to blow away the cobwebs. If we get to see the rest of the family that will be a super big bonus!
